It’s Time to Lean Into the Story God Is Writing

By Clay York

For the past year and a half, I’ve carried a story I haven’t wanted to tell many people.

Some of you know bits and pieces.
Some of you knew something happened, but never asked.
Some of you stood by me and some of you seriously showed up in big ways.

What I’m about to share over the next few months is personal, redemptive and completely raw and true.

In February 2024, I lost nearly everything (or at least what I thought mattered most at the time):

  • My business (I would have told you it was His/Jesus/God)

  • My reputation

  • My financial security

  • And nearly, my freedom

I was indicted by the federal government for crimes I didn’t commit.
And while I’ll share in the book and future blogs where I missed the mark, I’ll just say this for now:
My biggest mistake was being too trusting and associating with the wrong people.
We ultimately pled to a misdemeanor. It was humbling. It was devastating. And it changed everything.
They raided our house.
Arrested my wife. (I wasn’t home when it happened.)
Seized our accounts.
And they tried to break me. (By the way, that’s what they do)

What followed was the hardest year and a half of my life, but also an amazing story of God’s supply, supernatural power, and a story that is still being told.

But here’s what you need to know before we start: I didn’t lose it all. In fact, I lost nothing! Nothing at all. I gained everything…..

The network I built and my character paid off in this season.
My reputation to bring value paid off.
God was there every step of the way, never early, but never late!
Our health remained.
Our kids thrived and we started to laugh about the day it all went down.
And most importantly, we learned to have joy in the valley. Because the God of the mountain top, is also the God of the valley and you only learn this if you end up in a valley.

What I’ve Learned So Far

Before this happened, I lived with a certain mindset:
That if something bad happened to you, it must’ve been your fault. That your success or failure was fully within your control. That hustle, discipline, and integrity were enough to protect you. Those are all good things and they make a huge difference, but God still owns the pen and is writing your story….

When your life implodes- You learn a new kind of empathy.

You learn that not everything that breaks is because you failed.
You learn that sometimes, even when you do everything “right,” life can still sideswipe you.
You learn how to sit with people in their lowest moments, without judgment.
You learn to stop asking “why me?” and start asking “what now?” By the way, the worst thing to every happen on earth, happened to the greatest man that every walked the earth, Jesus!

And you learn that God doesn’t waste anything—especially your pain.

  • I discovered what faith really looks like.

  • I discovered who I really was.

  • I found out who really knew me.

Over the next few months, I’ll be sharing this story—chapter by chapter.

Not to clear my name (that’s already done).
But to glorify God, encourage others, and remind anyone walking through darkness that comeback stories are still being written. God has the pen and we can’t forget who is writing our story.

Every great movie.
Every great Bible story.
Remember, there is no resurrection moment without a valley.

If you’ve ever:

  • Been falsely accused

  • Had everything ripped away

  • Felt misunderstood

  • Or thought your life would not matter again...

I’m writing this for you.

Today, I’m as blessed as ever—with a career that has real impact and significance, a family I love, friends who are still in the fight with me, and a future I don’t take for granted.

Next week, I’ll start sharing the details—how it unfolded, what we faced, and the key moments where God showed up in ways that still give me chills.

This is my story. And it’s time to lean into the one God is still writing.
